March's Online Speaking Corner II

I joined another Online Speaking Corner that fit my schedule on March 17th. We had fun watching some hilarious Japp Commercials, although our teacher's aim was to talk about stereotypes.

We also watched the famous Diet Coke Break ad. It is amazing how different generations interpret the meaning. I didn't find it sexist in the same way that my young classmates. In my opinion, if we think it was made in the '90s, we can understand that it played with the traditional genre roles, so actually it was very modern.

We Should All Be Feminists

Since we clebrated the International Women Day last week, I wanted to read some book about feminist issues. I had watched in class an interesting Ted Talk lead by the writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie called The danger of a single story, and when I look up her on the web I knew she also had written a short book called We Should All Be Feminists. So I looked for it and I read it.

The book is really short because was adapted from the Adichie's 2012 TEDx talk of the same name, but it's worth reading. I also watched the video, but the speach is quite fast and the book allows me enjoying at my own pace.

Extra classes with Ingrid

I get along with Ingrid, so I decided to take some extra classes with her on my own regardless of the EOI. We are going to work on different topics on the fly.

Grand conjunction on 10th March

Grand conjunction means the occasional astrological configuration of the greater planets in a particular sign. On 10th March there was grand conjunction in my timetable because I had three activities in a row.

I'd booked my monthly English Conversation Meetup organized by the Aurora Public Library and next, I had an Online Speaking Corner with Joan. However, our teacher proposed to us a special activity that I didn't expect: the talk Seeing The World Trough Global Eyes. In this webinar, National Geographic invited us to step out our own perspective and look at things through the eyes of other people all over the World.
