April's Online Speaking Corner III

I joined a speaking class with A1-A2 students because it fit my schedule. Our teacher asked us to imagine that he was a Swedish tourist who knew nothing about Barcelona. We had to explain to him what Sagrada Familia was, who was its architect, and so on.

To make a long story short, we talked about many places I miss and I hope I will be able to visit again when the coronavirus crisis will finish.

Strictly Murder - Virtual Murder Mystery Challenge (20th-25th April)

I bought on Eventbrite a ticket for the April's virtual murder challenge performed by MurderedforMoney. The event was called Strictly Murder, and it was set in the made-up finals of the Ballroom & Latin dance championships. The characters were three dance couples, a TV local journalist and a dance judge, in addition to the police inspector who investigated the murder.

As usual, I didn't guess who was the murderer. Yet, I had fun, and I unexpectedly played a little role in the 'live' interrogation of the suspects via Zoom.

Since I had written my real name to access, one of the theatre company's members contacted me through the chat because of my Spanish name. It was supposed one of the dancers was Mexican, but the other characters suspected she was lying. He asked me if I could ask her in Spanish whatever I wanted  in order to establish if she was an impostor.

I made the most long question I could make up. So I took her by surprise and we all laughed. 😂

April's Online Speaking Corner II

I attended to a new Speaking Corner  on 21st April. The starting point was a photo where we could see an extremely slim girl. That is why we talked about anorexia, eating disorders and mental illness.

In Custardy! A murder mystery

I found a free activity on Eventbrite called 'In Custardy! A murder mystery.'. The show was a live murder mystery performance played by Levenshulme Players, an amateur company based in a town close to Manchester. I love live performances, although I felt sorry when they sent me into a breakout room to discuss the murderer, means, and motive. I was alone with an old lady, I didn't have a clue who did it, and I wish I had better English.  At least I shared my screen with her to examine the will.

April's Online Speaking Corner I

Our teacher selected a video about a transgender teenager, but he had technical problems and was unable to share his screen. So he roughly explained the content to us and then he asked what our opinion was.

We agreed that people that are trapped in a body that doesn't match them must go through a long, difficult process in order to change their gender.  In adiction, they can suffer due to prejudices that affect them psychologically.

The Importance of Being Earnest

I read the play The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde. The title of the story is an example of a pun. The pun is the play on words between the homophones ''earnest'' and ''Ernest.'' It is a comedy about identity, love, marriage, and money in the upper-class society of the Victorian period when earnestness was held as the virtue sublime.

The Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall

Since we are on Easter holidays, I wanted to see Jesus Christ Superstar. Fate gave me the chance to watch another musical, though. My husband found in TV3 The Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall and we got stuck in front of the screen.

The recording, featured Ramin Karimloo as the Phantom and Sierra Boggess as Christine, was ten years old but it was superb. It was filmed in 2011 to celebrate the play's 25th-anniversary. As bonus track, its composer Andrew Lloyd Webber spoke after the show and many artists that had played the roles before joined the celebration at the stage.

Me before You

I had this book by Jojo Moyes and I felt like read it in Easter. It is quite short because is an adapted book for B1 students. My idea was first reading the book and then watching the film, but... [SPOILER ALERT]

...after I read the book I decided that I didn't want to watch how such a handsome man killed himself. Sad stories make me feel sad, and I have my own problems. So I prefer happy stories where they all live happily ever after.
