April's Online Speaking Corner II

I had some technical problems but I could finally join my second Online Speaking Corner in April. Our teacher showed us the trailer for the movie Man On Wire and we talked about risky behaviors and risky decisions in life.

April's Online Speaking Corner I

We spent our first Online Speaking Corner in April talking about historical events. Our teacher showed us different photos that we had to comment on or talk about what they reminded us of. It was crystal clear that is easier talking and criticizing events abroad than in our own country.

Special guest speaker session: Cassandra Kubinski

My son had a special guest speaker session with the singer and songwriter Cassandra Kubinski on Monday, April 18th. I also attended the talk and took advantage of it, although off the record.

Cassandra spoke about her profession, sang a song called Stardust, and answered the questions that some students made. In addition, she gave them an excellent piece of advice, no matter if they wanted to become artists or whatever they wanted. She said we shouldn't try to invent the wheel when we start to learn a profession. Conversely, we should look for someone expert and ask him or her how to master this area. I wish someone would have given me this piece of advice when I was a teenager.

The Rotten Egg - Easter Detective Day

I received an offer from MurderedforMoney quite chipper than other mystery games, so I decided to buy it. It turned out to be a recycled mystery, they had played it before and now used the footage again. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the story anyway.

April's English Conversation Meetup

Although tickets for April's English Conversation Meetup organized by the Aurora Public Library were unavailable, I know some people usually don't attend the free activities that they have booked. So I wrote to the person who directs the activity to let her know that I was on the waiting list. She was very kind and sent me the link.

Book Club: The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan

Having read the B2 version of the book The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan, I attended the English Book Club at the Montserrat Roig Library. The session was led as usual by Ariane Amarantinis Strachan. She asked our opinion about the book and we talked about what personal experiences the story reminded us of.

I don't like reading graded books because they tend to oversimplify the story. Although it was a good version, far better than the previous book, the readers who had read the full version made me feel I had missed important details.
